Wallingford Town Centre Road closures

Town Centre roads will be closed from 10:15 – 20:00.  There will also be no-stopping parking restrictions (clearways) for the purpose of providing increased space for the town centre criterium races. See roads affected below.  Note that this will also restrict times you are able to enter and exit car parks in the town centre.

National Championship Road Race rolling road closures

There will be a rolling road closure on the roads used by the National Championship Races.  The route involves a small and large loop with the Men starting at 10:00 am and the Women starting at 14:10 pm from Wallingford Town Centre. They leave Wallingford via the Reading Road, onto the A4130, onto the short section of the A4074 then onto the B4009.

  • The small loop will be used twice by the women and four times by the men, on the following roads: the B4009 (Wallingford Road), Woodcote Road, South Stoke Road, through Woodcote onto the B471 Oxford Road to the A4074 back towards the start of the loop turning left into the B4009.
  • The large loop will be used twice by both men and women after the small loops, on the following roads:  B4009 (Wallingford Road) to Goring and then B4526 (Flint Hill) to Crays Pond, then to Woodcote on the B471 Goring Road and Oxford Road out of Woodcote onto the A4074
  • For the finish, the race will carry on along the A4074 passing Benson and turning left at Shillingford onto Wallingford Road, over Shillingford Bridge, along Shillingford Road and Castle Street finishing in Wallingford.

We are trying to keep all the roads open and we are only closing roads for the passing of the National Championship road race.  The riders will pass by very quickly and the traffic is only held back for the passing of the riders. If you are travelling in the direction of the riders, delays will be shorter than going against the flow, as traffic will need to be held back to avoid cars travelling towards cyclists coming the other way. There are motorbikes which drive ahead and behind the cyclists and communicate with the Marshals. The Traffic Marshals will be in high visibility vests and will help you in and out for access when the racers are not using the road. Local radio and WFOC social media will be keeping the public up to date

What to do on the day in case of an emergency:

In case of medical emergencies, please call 999 as normal and we are working with the emergency services to ensure rapid access and egress to the affected area.

Anyone requiring regular medical care should get their care-worker or company to call our hot line which is 01491 528900. Please ask people not to call this with non-medical issues as it blocks the line for those who need it.

We are here to offer advice

If you need any further advice regarding how the rolling road closure might affect your journey on Sunday 16 July, please contact rebeccawfoc@gmail.com.
